Boarding : Don't Forget the Ancillary Costs that go with the Ancillary Revenues
The ability to turn aircraft quickly is a key attribute for airline success. Every airline needs processes for offloading arriving passengers and their baggage, provisioning the aircraft for its next departure, on-boarding the departing passengers and their baggage, and departing on time. Faster is better, because shorter ground times translate to higher aircraft utilisation and lower costs per flight long-term.

Rightsizing Spare Aircraft
In spite of significant general improvement in dispatch reliability with each new generation of aircraft, delays and cancellations due to mechanical problems will continue to be a thorn in the side of the airline industry for the foreseeable future. Though expensive, spare aircraft are a major part of the solution, where the availability of a backup airplane can turn a major aircraft system failure into a non-event.

The Airline Operations Systems Market – 2016
Since 2009, T2RL have been publishing an annual report on the market for Airline Passenger Service Systems. This report is the first of what will be an annual series representing a similar analysis on the market for Airline Operations systems. We will look at what capabilities already exist, the new capabilities airlines are demanding, and what software providers are developing. We will analyse current activities and assess where the market is going. By highlighting current activities and trends, we hope to add some value and provide some transparency to the marketplace. It is our hope that, as a result of this report, airlines searching for systems and vendors searching for customers will find it an easier task.

Integration as a Key Capability for Airlines
Airlines require a high level of integration capability because their business models are characterised by integrated processes and shared data. However, not only does their data end up in silos they often lack appropriate access to some of the silos. This paper looks at the common problems and anti-patterns of integration and introduces the T2RL IO Score, for measuring the integration opportunity of airline systems, and the T2RL Agility Platform, a blueprint for addressing the challenges of enterprise integration within airlines.

Failures in Airline Systems : Complexity & Change as Risk Multiplying Factors in Airline Systems
Change and complexity are the two main contributing factors to failure in computer systems. Systems can sustain high levels of change if they are relatively simple and can survive being complex as long as they are relatively stable but the two combined tend to spell disaster. Airlines have inherently and increasingly complex systems and are trying to support ever greater volumes of change in the search for efficiency and competitive advantage. This paper will examine the causes of complexity and the drivers of change currently converging within the airline industry and suggest strategies for identifying and minimising the emergent risk.
