Navitaire effectively defined the commercial model for low-cost airlines in the early 1990s. Its Open Skies PSS was originally developed for Morris Air which was acquired by Southwest Airlines in 1993. Open Skies was a ticketless system designed for airlines using predominantly direct distribution and avoiding interline relationships.
